George Russell to replace Valteri Bottas with Mercedes

The Netflix cameras were present to capture the moment pen touched paper last weekend at the Dutch Grand Prix at the legendary Zandvoort circuit. The announcement is expected in the next 48 hours, but the ink has dried and Mercedes has their driver lineup for the 2022 season.

After Bottas secured his seat with Alfa Romeo for the foreseeable future, Mercedes will announce the signing of George Russell from Williams Racing as the new teammate of Lewis Hamilton in the next 48 hours.

George Russell had impressed at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix with Mercedes in replacement of Lewis Hamilton, who was battling COVID-19.

George Russell has taken the grid 49 times in Formula 1, with 3467 laps raced, 59 laps led and 1 podium in his career (2nd at the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix).

George Russell is part of the Mercedes Driver’s academy and has been groomed over the last few years for this opportunity.
